One of Ned's favourites... I wanna get hold on this DVD!

I am truly embarrassed. I make a comment on a singer I adore and I end up having a thread.

At least, Flocon, you must like her. She sang Delibe and Gonoud. Her "El Cielito Lindo" is also good.

Thanks, I guess, since I didn't expect such attention.

You may not know Leonard Bernstein's tv program "Young People's Concerts". In this one he talks about folk music and in particularly music from Auvergne. They are sung by an American soprano.

There is a program on Fr 2 or Fr 3 where a musician explains various music. Unfortunately I forget his name at the time.

It is indeed surprising how many video of Deanna Durbin are available on YouTube.

It happens that I have seen portions of this tv program on ARTE 3 or 4 years ago when they were airing a program about how America had a very ambitious educational project post WW2 which aim it was to educate the masses of course and raise the overall level of education to that of Europe.

This program lasted at least till the mid 60s since I saw Berstein analysing a song from the Beatles (And I love her 1964) and I vividly remember a mother turning to her 12 some year old son seeming to say: Listen to what the great man is saying... it had me smiling.

Since you now have a dance number in the sidebar, I thought I would give you others by the Nicolas Brothers in "Stormy Weather". There are many more videos of them, one with them sliding down railings that I don't remember the name.

Ned,

I have added a playlist dedicated to Deanna Durbin but since I don't know any of her recordings I chose the titles at random.

You tell me which songs you'd like to hear on said playlist and I'll defer to your wishes...
