We're gonna have some fun again (alas)

Chirac was on CNN 13 years ago on Larry King’s program. The dialogue was in English where Chirac isn’t ridiculous. He then once asked someone for the English rendition of “Printemps” (spring) when asked by L. King when the nuclear testing taking place in the Pacific would stop. A momentary lapse of vocabulary since “spring” isn’t exactly a rare and unusual word.

Very few French politicians are fluent in English, not to mention other languages. Strauss Kahn is more or less fluent in German. Giscard could hold his own in English.

As for Sarkozy and Douste Blazy (former Minister for foreign affairs) it's a complete disaster. Hollande made a fool of himself when he tried to say some words in Spanish to Zapaterro and Royal isn’t much more impressive in any foreign languages.

Also, who will ever forget the charismatic former French PM, Jean Pierre Raffarin and his famous "The Yes needs the No to win against the No"?

Now, all these people from the ENA or whatever BAC +20 training they come from are the same who insist young French should speak at least 2 if not 3 foreign languages when themselves are totally ridiculous as soon as they open their mouth to mutter 3 words in English.

And now I read in the Daily Telegraph that Sarkozy is in the mood to impress the Queen of England... Brace yourself for some embarrassing moment...

On se lamente quand on s'observe, on se réconforte quand on se compare (de mémoire)

Triste consolation indeed... :-(
