Laozi and the witch

I don't know much about American history but it seems immigrants arrived in this country with no expectation at all about the help the American State could provide for them. As a matter of fact, the very concept of "State" seems to be somehow eerie to most Americans who refer to the Government where Europeans -and the rest of the world for that matter- would refer to their respective State.

As we all know, the global historical mistrust of any too big political entity in America is reflected in the philosophical opposition between statism and minarchism. That fundamental dividing line between these two approaches of how a country should be run was most famously exemplified by R. Reagan's slogan:

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem

As written above, I don't know much about American history and politics but eventually I've come to the understanding that Republicans are more favorable to minarchism than their Democrat opponents.

There's now been some 2 years or so that a recent political trend in the US has emerged which seems to be even more demanding than the Rep re the need for less State (aka Marxism) and more "let the people free to live their lives without Government entanglement".

Whether they know it or not, these people in fact are giving a second life to a very old and basic concept of Chinese Taoism which is known as Wu wei. The core meaning of this concept is rather complex and hard to precisely define (we're talking about China here) but yet can be summed up as a means to restrain the prince from abuse of power, enjoining him to 'do' as little as possible.

For what I understand of the Tea Party movt, isn't it exactly what they expect from the people in Washington: Stop meddling in our private lives and get your dirty hands off our country!

I missed much of the story but I kinda understand that a certain Christine O'Donnell, more or less a prominent figure of the Tea Party, admitted she practised witchcraft as a teenager. Although her positions on sexuality aren't exactly sync with taoist sexual practices, she nonetheless actively and forcefully promotes a Chinese political theory in the United States of America.

After I've so often read so many Americans complaining that their country has been outsourcing most of the industrial jobs to China, the question arises now: Isn't Christine O'Donnell a leading member of the Chinese fifth column in the US whose ultimate goal is to bring America down to her knees?

Who would have thought that 2.500 years after he died Laozi's philosophy would be propagated on the other side of the earth by an American witch?

Thank you for the welcome back. I did have a wonderful time. And I'm looking forward to the post.

Look here... poor pussy!

Flocon,

You look so very distinguished in your new picture on the side bar.

The post is to be read cum grano salis of course but it was a good opportunity to write in English (and yes, I'm knackered Ned).

Also I discovered that you write an example with a A and to exemplify with a E.

And anglophones think their language is easy to learn...

Anijo,

Thanks Anijo, alas... that was whe time (2004) when I was younger, so much younger than today :-(

Look here the wreck I have become as to last month...

What a drag it is getting older...

lol Flocon.

The Tea Party is the promise of a fantastic future.

Anijo,

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain,
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right. I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a Gas! Gas! Gas!

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag,
I was schooled with a strap right across my back,
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a Gas! Gas! Gas!

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead.
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled.
I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread.
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I was crowned with a spike right thru my head.
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a Gas! Gas! Gas!

My face has grown thicker and I've lost my hair.

Ô to be 28 again...

Anonyme a dit…

Wow!!!! You were gorgeous when you were 28. And with that French accent.. oof... Of course, you are still handsome.

Me too, to be younger again.

That was me when I took a trip to ZapPow land many years ago.

And you've seen this before, but but here I am a year ago after life has taken its toll..

ZapPow,

Your link is fodder for the Democraty, the great illusioin" post.

The teapartiers are the people and the people is manipulatable at will through disinformation at all levels: political, economical, religious etc.

There's one and only one "solution" and it is education. But this is a pipe dream since all that has been achieved in this realm in the last, say, 5.000 years could be undone within a few years of world wide industrial scale brainwashing.

Think La world compagny... or Orwell.

If that's all there is, my friends, then let's keep dancing

I remember when I was a very little girl, our house caught on fire.
I'll never forget the look on my father's face as he gathered me up
in his arms and raced through the burning building out to the pavement.
I stood there shivering in my pajamas and watched the whole world go up in flames.
And when it was all over I said to myself, "Is that all there is to a fire?"

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is

And when I was 12 years old, my father took me to the circus, the greatest show on earth.
There were clowns and elephants and dancing bears
And a beautiful lady in pink tights flew high above our heads.
And as I sat there watching the marvelous spectacle
I had the feeling that something was missing.
I don't know what, but when it was over,
I said to myself, "Is that all there is to a circus?"

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is

Then I fell in love, with the most wonderful boy in the world.
We would take long walks by the river or just sit for hours gazing into each other's eyes.
We were so very much in love.
Then one day, he went away. And I thought I'd die -- but I didn't.
And when I didn't I said to myself, "Is that all there is to love?"

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing

I know what you must be saying to yourselves.
If that's the way she feels about it why doesn't she just end it all?
Oh, no. Not me. I'm in no hurry for that final disappointment.
For I know just as well as I'm standing here talking to you,
when that final moment comes and I'm breathing my lst breath, I'll be saying to myself,

Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is

No fair Anijo, the picture in Martinique is fuzzy! And what is that game of yours when you're teasing men through the Internet, you sexy one!

So much for the serious in this column. Tea Party people seem to be primitive libertarians with a strong touch of xian morals. These are inherently contradictory.

When I was in high school I had libertarian leanings and had read Lysander Spooner, Max Stirner, Hayek, and of course that nut Ayn Rand. It didn't take long to learn better and I doubt that many in the Tea Party know of any of their intellectual(strange using that word with the TP's)history or any of these people, except maybe Rand.

Flocon, the song I most identify with is by Dylan:

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I’ve stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I’ve walked and I’ve crawled on six crooked highways
I’ve stepped in the middle of seven sad forests
I’ve been out in front of a dozen dead oceans
I’ve been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard
And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, and it’s a hard
And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin’
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin’
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children
And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin’
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin’
Heard ten thousand whisperin’ and nobody listenin’
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin’
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley
And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony
I met a white man who walked a black dog
I met a young woman whose body was burning
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow
I met one man who was wounded in love
I met another man who was wounded with hatred
And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

Oh, what’ll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what’ll you do now, my darling young one?
I’m a-goin’ back out ’fore the rain starts a-fallin’
I’ll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison
Where the executioner’s face is always well hidden
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten
Where black is the color, where none is the number
And I’ll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it
Then I’ll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin’
But I’ll know my song well before I start singin’
And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

Sorry Ned. Frankly, I'm so sick and tired of hearing about the damned Tea Party. I feel that most people are realizing how wacky they are. Christine O'Donnell is passé. Note that Michelle Backmann has been rejected by the Republicans.

I would rather have a little fun these days. I've spent too much time worrying about politics to the point that it makes me feel ill. Frankly, I don't feel that I have that much longer to live and I don't want to spend the rest of my life being angry at people on the opposite side of the political spectrum. Art and love and friends and things like cute kitties and puppies are what matters most to me now.

Ned,

"So much for the serious in this column".

As written above, the post is to be taken cum grano salis.

As I wrote to merbel some times ago I like to make quite different issues collide/merge into one post.

I had this idea (laozi and the teapartiers) while on vacation and I thought it would make a not too serious unexpected post.

"I doubt that many in the Tea Party know of any of their intellectual"

Here it is mais c'est de mauvaise qualité.

Anijo,

I remember one of the last posts on your blog where you wrote about your suffocation with politics.

The next one should be to your taste I hope. The title will be (unless I have a better idea):

"When madam the Marquise your mother hears about this..."

"tu n'avais pas été assez un draguer."

So true! Hear that one!

Faut qu'on y croque à belles dents

Pauvres Donjujus, pauvres don juan.

Nous tamiserons les lumières
Même quand la mort viendra sonner
Et nous dirons notre prière
Sur un chapelet de grains de beauté
En attendant le jugement
Nous les donjujus, nous les don juan.
