Hard times

Anyone who would have thought Marxism was the main topic of this post would have been seriously misled...

(but Hegel will soon be called upon though)

Anonyme a dit…

Nora Ephron died on Tuesday. One of her humurous essays re: breasts, or per this picture, 'tits'.

ZapPow,

J'aime bien labourage et pâturage. Peux-tu développer?

Flocon a dit…

Anijo,

Du coup ça plombe l'ambiance et le billet (which was about my (limited) personal experience) is out of tune :-(

@ Flocon

J'aime beaucoup Nora Ephron.

What men don't know about women

Flocon a dit…

Oh my God! This is absolutely terrifying! I've never seen anything like that in my whole life. What happened to that poor woman? She must have felt a terrible pain indeed. I can only wish she has recovered since and will not again come through such a traumatic experience.

It's flabbergasting to witness how common such scaring scenes are in American restaurants and the police leave helpless women with no support or confort.

Where's MEDICARE when it's needed?

Thank God, Dr. House will quickly fix the situation.

If Anijo scared you, here is one to terrify you. I saw it a few years ago when it was broadcast on Arte and for a long time I couldn't find it on the net.

The first blonde woman interviewed is Natalie Angier, a respected science writer for the NY Times and author of several books.

Anonyme a dit…

Wow Ned! Interesting. I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine such a program being aired here in the U.S.

I see Flocon running away as far as he can from this discussion... you know, girle/boy embarrassing shit.. ☺

Flocon a dit…

Mon Dieu! C'est terrible! En plus il y a plusieurs parties. Pas pu aller jusqu'à la fin.

When SemperFidelis returns, he may well be a tough over-trained Marine, having travelled the world over, he sure is in for a shock!

No wonder my computer was blocked by the Gendarmerie Nationale the other day. It hosts links to XXX rated sites.

Now, where are my tablets against hypertension?

Ned Ludd a dit…

Anijo, just in case you didn't know, ARTE is a normal air broadcast channel, not cable, so everyone can watch it. But I think you are right, I wonder if even cable channels like Discovery or National Geographic or History would show it in the U.S.

Natalie Angier has not only often discussed women issues, she created a big stir in an article she wrote in defense of plants.

Ned Ludd a dit…

Anijo, and ARTE is a normal air broadcast network which anyone can watch. There should be an English version somewhere because it was broadcast in Australia.

Natalie Angier writes about many things and created quite a stir when she wrote an article in defense of plants. A video about it is on the page I linked.

It reminds me of when I worked at the university and my boss had a poster in his office saying, "Be Kind to Plants, Don't Eat Them". He wasn't a big animal rights fan.

Anijo,

Les programmes sont "culturels" and accessible to people with not much education (provided they're interested though).

France culture on the other hand is a radio service which addresses people with a university level.

Here is their site and yesterday there was a programm dedicated to Steve Reich that you can listen to.

Ned Ludd a dit…

Flocon, I guess with my recent links I will get you in more trouble with the Gendarmes. So just to pile on, here is one to a Disney production from the 50's.

Menstruation

Still wasting my good time giving you troubled times.

Anonyme a dit…

Ned,
Natalie Angier is an interesting person to study. I'll be checking out some of her stuff later.

Flocon,
Thank you so much for the link to the program with Steve Reich! I must have mentioned to you before how much I appreciate his music. In fact, when I paint I usually play his music for inspiration. And I discovered the Bang on a Can All-Stars. Having a good time this morning exploring the topics on France Culture.

Flocon a dit…

Ned,

Not only is the music of your Cinderella film lovely, discreet, sweet and al but at the end it appears Kimberly-Clark (well, the makers of Kortex products) sponsored this production.

America was half a century ahead of Europe at that time and one century ahead of Latin Europe.

There is this How to spot a Communist film too...

Ned Ludd a dit…

Flocon, you can find many of these sorts of films and many more much more interesting at the Internet Archive.

I have seen this one and even worse. Look up the things made by the so-called Harding College.
